Thoughts on Sphinx^

Over the past several months, I have made several migrations of the site to test out different build systems and formats. None of them are really what I want but all offered some small short term advantages at the time.

In the most recent migration, I’ve reverted the site back to Sphinx, a Python-based program that parses reStructuredText source files. It’s mainly meant to build static documentation sites, which is how I first learned of it.

I’m not particular happy with Sphinx. It tends to be slow and not as cooperative as I’d like when it comes to expansion or the introduction of new features. But, I do very much like reStructuredText. It’s a much better and more feature rich language than Markdown when it comes to working with complicated ideas. It could be a lot more. Something as flexible as XML, but that’ll require a good bit of work on my part to build that bridge.
