Class II
Nouns in Class II are mostly in the inanimate gender. They derive from the old i-stem inanimate
declension
Unlike the similarly formed Class VI,
in Class II to prefix developed a velar onset in [k]
. The reason for this is not particularly
clear, though it may derive from a lost contraction.
