Class VI
Nouns of Class VI belong to the inanimate gender. These derive from the old i-stem
inanimate declension, whose prefix was the vowel. Unlike the similarly formed Class II,
in Class VI to prefix developed a dental onset in [t]. The reason for this is not particularly
clear, though it may derive from a lost contraction.
