Class VIII

Nouns in Class VIII belong to the animate gender, which is to say they can function as masculine, feminine, or bestial nouns depending upon the mood of the speaker. This class derives from Class VI inanimate nouns that, for some reason, later peoples have begun to ascribe some form of animacy. As such, the declension was shifted from i-stem to a-stem.
